Specialist rug laundry and cleaning
Rug cleaning in Melbourne
Rugs are a beautiful and stylish way to decorate your home, but they can be challenging to keep clean. Valuable and delicate rugs need careful handling, so they should not automatically be treated like fitted carpet in a home or business.
Yellow Brick Road understands that rugs need specialised cleaning. Our rug laundry service is designed for oriental, Persian, handmade, shag and machine-made rugs, together with fibres such as wool, silk, cotton and synthetics.
We use current cleaning and deodorising treatments, but cannot guarantee that every issue will respond or completely disappear.

Man-made fibres, viscose and art silk
Fibres such as viscose, rayon, bamboo silk, Lyocell and Luxcelle can be difficult to maintain and clean. Foot traffic, liquid spills and especially pet stains can produce different results depending on the rug quality and the extent of soiling. Many of these fibres are weak and do not withstand ordinary everyday use well.
We recommend our low-moisture process for these fibre types to reduce the risk of browning or yellowing.
Rug cleaning cost
Pricing depends on whether the rug can be cleaned in the property or needs specialised off-site care.
Small to medium rugs in suitable condition may be cleaned on site for $15 per square metre, with a minimum charge of $135.
Larger or more specialised rugs can be collected, cleaned at our facility and returned in approximately 7–14 days.
A $95 cleaning fee applies.
A cleaning fee of $30 per square metre applies.
Additional fees
Rugs with severe staining or infestations may need additional treatments starting from $50. A $50 pickup-and-delivery fee also applies.
Here is how the rug-cleaning process works
Pre-inspection
We inspect fading, stains, colour instability, odours and pre-existing damage so you understand what to expect.
Dry-soil removal
The rug is run under an industrial vibrating machine to release deep-set soil particles from the fibres.
Spot and stain treatment
Individual spots and stains are treated where necessary.
Cleaning-agent application
Suitable high-quality cleaning agents are applied.
Selected wash process
The rug receives either a submersion wash or a low-moisture process suitable for delicate fibres.
Rotary scrubbing
Rotary action helps separate soil from the fibre for a more thorough clean.
Cold-water rinse
The rug is gently rinsed and passed through a wringer to remove excess water.
Controlled drying
The rug is placed in a regulated, temperature-controlled drying room.
Final inspection and grooming
Fringes and remaining spots are reviewed before the rug is vacuumed, groomed and prepared for delivery.
Rug protection
To extend the life of your rugs, ask about our environmentally friendly fibre protector. It acts as an inhibitor against everyday spillages such as food and drinks, giving you time to absorb excess moisture before it causes further fibre damage.
Rugs and fitted carpet
One enquiry for the floor surfaces throughout your home.
Rugs and fitted carpets can need different processes. Tell us about both and our team can advise how each surface should be handled.
Frequently asked questions
Useful answers before you book.
Rug construction and fibre type can significantly affect the cleaning method, price and achievable result.
Can my rug be cleaned at home?
Small to medium rugs in good condition may be suitable for in-home cleaning. Valuable, delicate, heavily soiled or larger rugs may need specialist off-site cleaning.
How long does pickup-and-delivery cleaning take?
Rugs cleaned at the facility are generally returned within approximately 7–14 days.
How much does rug cleaning cost?
In-home cleaning is $15 per square metre with a $135 minimum. Rugs under 3.16 square metres have a $95 cleaning fee, while larger rugs are $30 per square metre. Pickup, delivery and special treatments are additional.
Can you clean viscose or art-silk rugs?
These fibres are problematic and results vary. Yellow Brick Road recommends a low-moisture process to reduce the risk of browning or yellowing.
Can every stain or odour be removed?
No. Results depend on the fibre, construction, quality, soiling and prior damage. The pre-inspection helps set realistic expectations.
